The valley is a garden. Visit when you can sit outside after a château, not only when the interiors are open.
May–June
Gardens at their best, mild cycling, and fewer August coaches. The strongest first choice.
September
Harvest light, still-warm days, and thinning crowds. Excellent for a Paris add-on.
July–August
Long days and the busiest interiors. Book Chambord/Chenonceau early and cycle early in the morning.
Winter
Some gardens rest and a few smaller houses reduce hours. Fine for interiors if you accept short daylight.
