Venice rewards dawn and a water bus, not a noon gondola queue. One palace, one island, one bacaro crawl.
Ride vaporetto Line 1
Santa Lucia to San Marco the slow way. Palazzi, Rialto, the light on the water. This is the Grand Canal. A private water taxi is faster and worse as an introduction.
St Mark’s and the Doge’s Palace
Timed basilica entry. Gold mosaics overhead. The palace is next door — combined tickets exist. Do both the same cluster, not with Murano on the same morning.
Cicchetti in Cannaregio or Dorsoduro
Crostini, salt cod, artichokes, prosecco at €4–6. Bacari, not Piazza San Marco photo menus. Go after 7pm when the day boats have left.
Murano, Burano, Torcello
Glass, colour, and an almost empty island. A full day. Torcello’s mosaics are older than the tourist Venice you already walked.
Accademia Bridge at sunset
The Grand Canal from above without a ticket. Gondolas optional after.
